In German we have the wording, 'Der kleine Dienstweg' for this kind of situation:

Das am Rande der Probentage so manches Problemchen aus der Welt geschaffen wird, ist ein willkommener Nebeneffekt. -

The fact that informal talks between two business units manages the in-service training can resolve a problem or two is a welcome bonus.
